With excess American Walnut from my first timber furniture project, I’ve decided to leave none to waste. Instead of concentrating on joints and lines (as I did in “1+1”), the bare planes became the design means to expose its beautiful grain and texture and practically fitted together as a display briefcase. Unlike most briefcases, this unit is made of excess timber planks which were too short a length to run through the thicknesser machine to produce a thinner and lighter casing. It was then that the lids were made to be opened on both sides to keep the briefcase upright for the display of portfolios.
