This sculptural artwork is a product of cable ties and irrigation pipes woven together by self-learned weaving techniques which were improvised from Irvine’s own experiments. Her keen interest in nature and landscapes is evidently displayed in the organic form and fluid motion of this workpiece. This sculpture was specifically made with the site in mind, in the transitional space not too far from the staircases, in the corner where daylight is abundant.
Lucy Irvine emigrated from Scotland to Melbourne in 2003 and in 2008 undertook a Master of Fine Arts at the Victorian College of the Arts. Her work is being displayed at the Ian Potter Centre, NGV Australia at Federation Square from 22nd November 2013 to 23 March 2014.
